sustainability requirements as the implementing agency. UNOPS project officer Genevieve Valcin is in charge of the project and can be contacted for formal questions at GenevieveV@unops.org.
The Project's Significance
This project is a component of a larger plan to update and reconstruct Haiti's educational system, especially in areas impacted by natural disasters and socioeconomic difficulties. The project intends to expand and restore school facilities in order to:
-
Boost the Nord region's access to high-quality education
-
Enhance sanitation and hygiene with new facilities
-
Make learning environments for instructors and students safer and more resilient.
Additionally, by involving local construction companies and labourers, the project promotes local employment and capacity-building, helping to revitalise the local economy.
Haiti's Infrastructure Development and UNOPS
UNOPS has been in Haiti for a long time, providing government and development partners with vital infrastructure, procurement, and
project management support. In keeping with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), the organisation continues to support inclusive, resilient, and
sustainable infrastructure development through projects like the rehabilitation of Christ Roi School.
To sum up
Hundreds of students in the Nord Department will benefit from a safer and more comfortable learning environment thanks to École Nationale Christ Roi's renovation, which is a concrete investment in Haiti's future. The project, which is currently under UNOPS supervision, is anticipated to establish a standard for the
nation's sustainable school infrastructure development.
